Group Description

I am researching the History of the Gomm’s (Gomme, Gom, Gome, Gomb) as part of a One Name Study, including family history and facts about members of the family.

My plan is to put all of the Gomm family tree’s and information into a booklet which can be used as a reference document for Gomm(e)’s and perhaps future generations. Each tree will form its own chapter. Certain trees lack detail i.e. exact dates and places of birth, death or marriage, and occupation, which you may have? Plus I am keen to put some details in about some of the Gomm’s in each tree e.g. Military Service or press cuttings! If you have any useful information about your ancestors it would be appreciated.

There are Gomm(e)’s in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, and South Africa, which I would like to find out more about. If you have any relation’s abroad perhaps they could help? Plus there are several thousand of us in the UK! If you have any information or see anything of interest in a local or national paper or museum on our family be it a Gomm, Gomme, Gom, or Gomb please make contact by post or email.

I have posyed a copy of the 'Concise History of the Gomm's' on this site. You will find details of the origins of the name, historical references, military casualties and a list of the Gomm Tree's! Many thanks to all those that contributed to this work, without your help it would not have been produced. There is not much original research here, mostly the labour of compiling the document from many letters, papers and emails over the 6 years. I hope that this document is useful to you and your family.

If you have any on our family be it a Gomm, Gomme, Gom, or Gomb please make contact. With the information that I hold I may be able to help you with your family tree, especially if you can provide information back to the early 1900’s or preferably the 1881 Census.

Thanks for all the help and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Roger Gomm
