Election of Verderer
- The next election for the Forest of Dean Verderer takes place on Thursday 29th November at Gloucester Cathedral.
The vote is scheduled to take place at 11 am and is by a show of hands on the day.
Ian Standing (Vice President of Forest of Dean Local History Society and Secretary of H.O.O.F.) has put himself forward for election and would like your vote.
Everyone who is a freeholder and lives in the county of Gloucestershire (except if you live in the city of Gloucester itself) is entitled to a vote.
In centuries past, the Verderers were part of the ancient court system that looked after the royal forests. Although the courts no longer operate, the office of Verderer has been maintained in the Forest of Dean for over 700 years.
If you are intending to come along to witness this unique occasion I suggest that you arrive at the Cathedral shortly after 10 am as there is a registration procedure before the vote.
