      Information Technology Division

      The Department of City Planning (DCP) is responsible for New York
      City's physical and socioeconomic planning, including land use and
      environmental review. Department staff are engaged in a wide range of
      planning, urban design and economic development issues.

      The GIS Developer will be a member of the ArcGIS Team responsible for
      the geographic data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
      applications used by planners and other technical staff throughout the
      The GIS Developer will, under the supervision of the GIS Specialist,
      have responsibilities related to the maintenance of an extensive
      geographic database that includes property, building, street, zoning,
      and administrative district information, digital orthophotography and
      other vector and raster resources. This work employs ESRI's ArcGIS
      Desktop, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server/IMS, SQL Server, Microsoft Access and
      other software. The GIS Developer will work with the GIS Specialist in
      programming GIS-based applications to support the work of the
      Department of City Planning.
      The ArcGIS Team is also responsible for providing GIS technical
      support for DCP staff. Support includes researching and finding new
      ways to leverage GIS technologies withinthe Department of City
      Planning, holding GIS users meetings and responding to staff requests
      for assistance.

      Minimum Preferred Requirements:
      A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with concentration
      in computer science, information technology, geography, urban planning
      or closely related field, and three years related experience. A
      Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to two
      years of experience, on the basis of 30 credits equals one year of
      experience. Demonstrated technical experience using ArcGIS, ArcGIS
      Extensions, ArcSDE, SQL Server or other RDBMS and related technologies
      is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      Multitasking and highly motivated. Ability to set priorities and meet
      deadlines. Attention to detail. Ability to work independently and make
      decisions regarding spatial data resources and related attribute

      Experience with the following:
      ● Scripting (such as Python, SQL, Javascript) for data management and
      ● Programming (such as C#, VB.Net, ArcGIS Server/IMS Web development,
      ESRI ArcObjects, etc.) for application development; and
      ● Database development including writing stored procedures using
      T-SQL, database design concepts/modeling, user administration and
      database tuning.
