ICan anyone else think of any unlikely mainstream sparks?

      Maven

Wel, off the top of my head, i can think of a few right quickly, That is if you include books as well as Movie/TV.
Tom Swift , both Sr and JR, would qualify, as well as The Wizard, from TV, .. Sherlock Holmes would be a Minor Spark, specialising  in criminal investigation.  Captain Nemo is a good choice as well as Many other from Jules Verne. From Science Fiction I believe that Richard Seaton From EE "Doc" Smith's Skylark series would also qualify. I am quite certain that there will be many others found by the rest of you.

May the Spark be with you!

I don't know if either have been mentioned yet, but perhaps Panthro
from the ThunderCats, he's always building and improving Cat's Lair and
        the ThunderTank.

Also Doctor Finklestein from Nightmare before Christmas. He built
Sally, and his girlfriend at the end of the movie, his Igor and the
reindeer (and made them Fly) for Jack to do Christmas!
