3537GIMP & Windows XP Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
- RichardFeb 17, 2011
I downloaded the GIMP file [gimp-2.6.11-i686-setup-1.exe]. Last night I finally tried to install it (the HELP file has been installed for some time). XP's DEP intervened and refused to allow GIMP to run.

Nothing I did made any difference: turning off DEP; turning off the firewall, adding GIMP as an exception in DEP; nothing.
The only noticeable difference was that, when DEP was turned off, there was no error message. A small rectangle appeared momentarily, but then GIMP just shut down. Watching in the Task Manager, GIMP would be added momentarily to the list of processes, but would disappear without saying goodbye.
How do I get around this--or is there a DEP-friendly version of GIMP that I can download, as Microsoft recommends?
