Gilgamesh Glamour

"Ceramic replicas of the Akkadian-language tablets telling the Gilgamesh epic have been recreated by Turkey-based Iranian sculptor Babak Sobhi. The artwork has been installed at Sumer Park in Diyarbakir, southeastern Turkey."

"One of the world's most ancient and widespread stories is of a virtuous and practical boat-builder who enabled life to survive a great flood. The tale is told in the Torah, the Bible, the Koran and the epic of Gilgamesh; its hero is called Noah, or Ziusudra, or a host of other names. One of the places where Noah is believed to have beached his ark is on Ararat."

"Gilgamesh is set in Uruk, a city in what is now war-torn southern Iraq. In the tale, Uruk is tormented by its self-absorbed and cruel king, Gilgamesh. Enkidu, a wild-man tamed by the touch of a woman, confronts Gilgamesh, but the rivalry of these two heroes unexpectedly evolves into an epic friendship. After the untimely death of Enkidu, Gilgamesh sets off in pursuit of the secret of eternal life. Through his heroic journey, he learns that he cannot escape mortality and is transformed into a King forever remembered by his people."
