      I need some help choosing a film scanner.

      While organizing a lifetime of 35mm color slides, 35mm color negatives, and
      even some 2-1/4"x2-1/4" color and black & white negatives, I keep running
      across some that I would to digitize. I would print, send to relatives, or put on a
      website.

      PC World has reviewed some scanners (
      http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,115075,00.asp) and their pick was a Canon CanoScan 9900F Color Image
      Scanner at about $400.

      But their review of the Epson Perfection 3170 Photo, at $200, sounded just as
      good. They are both flat-bed scanners which could also scan my larger format
      negatives as well as prints (although I have another scanner for prints). I
      could afford the $400 if it's worth the extra cost.

      Has anyone tried either of these or could suggest something else?

        Hi Jack;

        I am a professional photographer/videographic and graphic artist. I just ordered the Epson 4870 to go with my new Apple G5 dual 2 gig computer.... I ordered it for the same reasons you mentioned +I shoot in 6X7cm negative format. The Epson 4870 has a 6X9 inch transparency feature. So far it had the best reviews, and cost around $500.00 or less if you seriously shop!

        I can tell you how it works by next week!!!! yahoo!
