      Hello list,
You might be interested in knowing about the Ceremony here in Wilson, this
coming Saturday May 10, 2003, 2:00 PM in Maplewood Cemetery.

A new monument will be placed at the bottom of the Soldiers Mound in
      Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson, NC.
Confederate Soldiers who died here in the Confederate Hospital during the
Civil War were eventually buried in the Mound in Maplewood Cemetery.

Their names have been researched and the new monument will have the
Soldier's name, unit, and day of death listed.

Wilson native Dennis Rogers, newspaper columnist with The News & Observer of
Raleigh and a descendant of a Confederate Soldier, is scheduled to give the
      keynote speech.

There will be a Civil War living history exhibit and troop encampment
display on the grounds. Some 125 members of the 26th Regiment of the North
Carolina Troops, an organization of Civil war re-enactors, will be camping
on site during the weekend in full period attire.

Artillery and infantry demonstrations will be held throughout the day by the
re-enactors, and cannons will be fired during the dedication ceremony.

Refreshments, souvenirs and local historical booths will also be included.

A more detailed article about the celebration was published in this
week-end's edition of the Wilson Daily Times in the Lifestyle Section.

This promises to be a spectacular event. If you live local, I urge you to
come Saturday for the unveiling of the new monument to honor these brave
soldiers who gave their lives for what thy believed in.
