Daughters donate $3,000 to library
Members of the Susanna Coutanch Evans Chapter of the Daughters of the
American Revolution in Greenville recently donated $3,000 to Sheppard
The funds will be used to purchase a CD-ROM distribution tower for
genealogical research in the library's refurbished local history and
The tower will enable storage of multiple CDs that can be accessed
electronically by patrons from their individual computer terminals, library
Director Willie Nelms said.
Members raised the funds through bazaars, gift wrap sales and other projects.
The DAR is a service organization made up of 200,000 members and 300
chapters nationwide. The Greenville chapter's 28 members are active in
promoting historic preservation and genealogical research.
The group also recognizes good citizenship in Pitt County schools, provides
scholarships for college-bound students and encourages patriotism.
Any woman older than 18 who is lineally descended from a man or woman who
served the cause of American Independence is eligible for membership
......and don't forget that the same is true of any man also...
but they would be in the SAR. (same requirements)
