Edgecombe County is compiling an Edgecombe County Heritage Book.

The deadline for submitting articles has been extended by popular demand to January 15, 2009, so please plan to include your family in Edgecombe County's rich history. This allows you to meet with families over Thanksgiving and Christmas. If your article is over 1000 words, you can work with other family members in extending the content of your article. Only one free article "per household" but your siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins may work together to pick up another 1000 words "per household" and extend the story through to conclusion. Each entry must be submitted by only one person in the household.

You also may write the entire article yourself if you are the family historian, and break it up into 1000 word segments but you must make sure that each of the 1000 word articles following yours is submitted by a family member living in another household and having a different address.

The heritage books have been popular, including the 1986 Wilson County book housed in the Wilson County Library. So popular, in fact, that the only remaining copy is kept under lock and key.

Please make plans to include your families in the Edgecombe County Heritage Book. By going to the following website and choosing selection from the section across the top of the page, you may see samples of articles and obtain a mailing address for your articles.
