Thanks so much for responding to my query, I looked at my GGF Jordan
Venter's death certificate and could make out what appeared to be
Flanagan and Parker Undertaker, apparently he passed away at his
home. The informant Joshua Beaman was his eldest grandchild, who knew
very little family information because Fred Venters was Jordan's
father and Shade was his younger brother, I guess families did not
do that much talking.
Marcia.... David emailed the article and I have the census
records, the Joyner Lbrary had the photo used in the DR article and I
was able to get copies made, as far as Benjamin Venter's 1810 slave
schedule, he had nine slaves and his name appeared on line
seventeen.I did find a Nancy Venters, enumerated on the 1840 Craven
Co census as a FPOC with a female slave io<24 living in the
household, who was probably her family member, but thanks so much for
I will admit that I was confused by too many GW Venters, especially
the one who was living in Lenoir Co and enumerated in 1850,no one
seemed to know him.On Sat I received a packet which contained Ben
Jrs. State vs Ephraim trial, and information about his estate naming
his sons and his slaves, apparently he used the names Washinton
Venters, instead of George Washington.I don't believe GW Venters, was
my GGGF's original owner, I think my family was inherited and freed
before the Civil War began by a Washington Venters.
Lastly I am going to renew my membership to the Pitt Co Gene Society
so I can order Quarterly's from earlier issues and pre order The
Cemetery Books.I live in Phila, Pa and my research is long distance.
Thanks again for the response and what else to search for clues.
