      Hello Group.....
Latest news re: new prices at National Archives. If you need copies of documents verifying your genealogy research, I suggest you order them now before prices go up in October. The below article found at:
      http://www.normantranscript.com/features/local_story_237012347
The National Archives and Records Administration will increase its fees beginning Oct. 1, so there is still time for researchers to order records at the old rate. Civil War pension files fees will increase at a greater rate than any other documentation, so those would be the records I would order first.

The proposed increased price for Civil War pension files was to be $125 for a complete file regardless of the page count, but that price has been lowered to $75 for up to 100 pages. If the requested file includes more than 100 pages, the NARA staff will notify the customer of the additional pages that can be obtained at the cost of .65 cents per page. The customer has the option of sending the additional fee and receiving everything in the file or to decline the offer. The fee also will apply to any pension files after the Civil War. The fee for pre-Civil War pension papers was lowered from the proposed $60 to $50.?

The changes in the new fees was a result of all the comments NARA received about the price increases. More than half of those comments were from genealogists and family history researchers, who especially objected to the proposed fee of $125 for Civil War pension papers. Most of the genealogists stated the pension papers were required by prospective members of various lineage societies.

Researchers who visit NARA and make their own paper-to-paper copy on a NARA self-service copier in the Washington, D.C., area will be charged .25 cents a page. Customer who make a paper-to-paper copy on a NARA self-service copier outside of the Washington, DC, area (regional archives and Presidential libraries) will be charged .25 a page.

Other proposed fees include military service files more than 75 years old on Order Form 86 will be $25, bounty land warrant application files (NATF Form 85) $25 and land entry records (NATF Form 84) $40.? Check the NARA Web site www.archives.gov for passenger arrival lists, federal census data and other information.

If your order is received prior to Oct. 1, it will be filled at the fee in effect when it was received. Get your orders in to take advantage of the old rate.
