In 1866 the Federal Govt. developed a list of Freedmen/women who were living
together with the idea of formalizing relationships into marriages. As such
a register was developed that listed slaves by name and the name of their
former masters. In many counties this list has been lost, or has been
secured by Black Churches or Libraries or in others is available in the
genealogy section. Does anyone in Pitt know if there is such a Register in
      Pitt County?

Also, at the Sourther Collection at UNC there is a 22 reel microfilm edition
of "Records of Ante-belum Southern Plantations from the Revolution throught
the Civil War by Kenneth M. Stampp. Is anyone aware of the availability of
      this information via the Internet??
