I said that I have made a booklet on the Ava Gardner connection for my grandson....

Needless to say, at 11, he asks "Who is Ava Gardner?" He is not "thrilled" about this connection. : )

Times marches on....the elementary school that I attended has been torn down, roads have changed, computers have made their impact on us (he doesn't know a world without computers), and "who is Ava Gardner?"

Carol - Congrats on your new grandmotherhood! I certainly hope to attain the esteemed rank of grandparent some day -- will do my best to hang in there and see what happens. I'm sure we're both glad to be living in times when a breech baby doesn't have to mean a choice between saving either the mother or the baby, but not both, as it did in days of old. In those times as we know, the choice was usually made in favor of the baby, since our strongest instincts have generally been to perpetuate the species...

Ava Gardner was truly a beautiful woman.. the pride of Smithfield and Johnston County, but she also had roots that ran deep into other parts of eastern NC and Pitt County, which makes her related to a number of us. I think Faye Hays has shown that one of Ava Gardner's grandmothers was a Forbes from Edgecombe County (with strong evidence of that line going back to Pitt/Beaufort Counties), and there has always been some speculation of American Indian in her ancestry as well, which is somewhat apparent thru her complexion and facial features. Folks who receive this msg directly by email thru an Outlook program can view an example photo below, and for others, it can be found on the following link: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Derby/1586/GalleryListing.html

I'll go out on a limb and alienate myself from some readers with the following observation -- racial blending in the bloodlines can often be a good thing!

                  Dear Bob,
Thanks! Yes, we can be truly grateful that
obstetrics has come so far that it's rarely either or
today when it comes to Mom and baby. As to becoming a
grandparent, I was beginning to think that it was
never going to happen to me.
My 34 year-old son tells me, "Mama, Tracey and I
are still thinking about a dog. Do you know how much
responsibility a dog is? Do you know that a dog can
change a couple's relationship? We are so happy. We
are still not even sure that we can handle a dog, much
less a baby, and we have been together 8 years."
As for Fern, my daughter, she just couldn't see
herself spending the rest of her life with anyone, and
there was no way she was going to have a child on her
own. Although many singles do adopt today, Fern did
not see that as a workable option for herself.
So, I am lucky! Fern found Mickie or vice versa,
                  and now we have Sierra.
As always, even when I do not drop a note, I remain
an avid reader of your e-mails.

I said I was in Miss Gaskin's class 1961; it was actually 1962. President Kennedy was killed 1963. There I go, telling everyone my age-LOL.
I do enjoy reading these e-mails. I learn so much!
Now for a genealogy question, I read in the Genealogy Com forum that the Dail Family Cemetery was being moved-does anyone know anything about this? If it was moved, does anyone know where?
                        Thank you, Dani

Thanks Faye, I thought it was Ava s maternal grandmother who was a Forbes. If I recall right, that s the line that you trace back to your Arthur Forbes b.

Thanks Faye, I thought it was Ava's maternal grandmother who was a Forbes. If I recall right, that's the line that you trace back to your Arthur Forbes b. 1774, who married "Beady" and lived in Edgecombe County. Wanted you to know that I received your backup file with all that detailed info a few days ago, and one day (soon i hope) I'm going to sit down and compare it with all the Pitt County info I have on Forbes families and try to figure how they tie together.

But I still have to work for a living and help raise a couple of teenagers, so pls don't hold your breath...

                                Dear Dani,
I got the impression that graves were being moved
to accommodate highway construction. Some families
moved their loved ones to Pinewood, but I can't say
that was the case for all the graves.
                                Later, Carol
