DAVID L. CUMMINGS
David Lawrence Cummings, son of David Cummings and wife Lydia Harris,
was born on September 10, 1825, and died on January 8, 1882. On
January 7, 1847, he married Elizabeth Dunn (1825-1848), daughter of
Jacob Dunn and wife Mary Pitt, bonded by John Dunn.
1. James Bolden Cummings was born on January 8, 1848, and died on
April 19,1925. On December 23, 1875, he married Vesta Johnston,
daughter of Joab Johnston and wife Mary Ann Griffin. She was born on
February 1, 1856, near Pinetops in Edgecombe County, and died on
November 1, 1893.
On March 21, 1848, David Lawrence Cummings married secondly Mary Dunn,
daughter of Jacob Dunn and wife Mary Pitt, bonded by John Dunn. She
was born on April 20, 1827 in Edgecombe County, and died on February

Jedidah Stokes in Edgecombe County. She was born in 1875.

December 18,1871 and died on June 27, 1903. On December 13, 1903, he
married secondly Martha Lodge. She was born in 1861.
a. Joshua E. Cummings was born in 1896. On December 27, 1921 he
married Elizabeth Gay in Edgecombe County. She was born in 1896.

Isham Cherry married Lydia Jane Cummings, daughter of William
Cummings and wife Ludicia Baker. She was born on August 6, 1861, in
Pitt County and died on December 28, 1892, presumably in Edgecombe

WILLIAM S. CUMMINGS
William S. Cummings, son of William Cummings and wife Ludicia Baker,
was born on August 13, 1860 in Pitt County, and died on July 1, 1926,
in Edgecombe County. On February 11, 1891, he married Bettie
Edmundson, daughter of Mause Edmundson.
1. Annie Cummings married William C. Bogey. For many years she was
Secretary of the Edgecombe County Superintendent of Education, but
now lives in Kinston, N.C.

DAVID LAWRENCE CUMMINGS
David Lawrence Cummings, son of William Cummings and wife Ludicia
Baker, was born on April 1, 1856, in Pitt County, and died on March
16, 1910, at Tarboro. His father and mother died when he was young,
and he was reared by his uncle Staton Harvey Cummings near Old
Sparta, where most of the family are buried in the Cummings
Graveyard. On March 12, 1878, he married Sarah "Sally" Johnston,
daughter of Joab Johnston and wife Mary Ann Griffin. She
was born on March 30, 1852 and died on May 27, 1909. They were
members of Calvary Episcopal Church at Tarboro, and he was a member
of Woodmen of the World.
Children of David and Sally Johnston Cummings:
1. Mamie Cummings was born September 18, 1879, and died October 12,
2. Joseph Hugh Cummings was born February 15, 1883, and died August
3. Zeb Conyers Cummings was born on January 6, 1889, at Tarboro, and
died in the same house on August 2, 1948. He attended the Kinston
Military Academy and the New Bern Military Academy. On February 22,
1910, he married Margaret Rosalynd Tyson, daughter of Joel Benjamin
Tyson and wife Banna Jacqueline Parker. She was born on May 3, 1888,
near Farmville, and died on March 20, 1964, at Tarboro.
a. Zeb Conyers Cummings, Jr., was born on October 24, 1912. He was
educated at the University of North Carolina and is a salesman. On
August 22, 1938, at Norfolk, he married Martha Gladys "Mattie"
Williams, daughter of Samuel Williams and wife Minnie Breeden. She
was born on September 17, 1912, at Jones's Cove Tennessee, and is a
registered nurse. They live in Tarboro, N.C.
