- Aug 28, 2011Oh my gosh, I wish I lived in LA so I could come to that (my birthday is Sept 10th and that would be the ultimate gift to myself!). What a great idea for Gene lovers! Good luck with your endeavors! (and I completely forgot about Gene's birthday this year - hanging head in shame - so Happy Belated Birthday Gene! I'll be watching one of your movies tonight for a late celebration!)

Subject: [Gene Kelly the Great] Great to join such a group!
I've been a Gene Kelly fan since high school when I first saw SINGIN' IN THE RUN uncut!
As a matter of fact I was once in touch with Mr. Kelly with a proposal for a sequel -- maybe not the greatest idea -- but when he opted to do XANADU instead, it made me think better of my concept!
With my Sept. 6th birthday looming I decided to do something really crazy and have rented a hundred seat cinema at AMC BURBANK 16 here in Los Angeles County and I'll be screening SINGIN' IN THE RAIN at 10 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 10th. All are welcome!
I'm testing the waters to see if it's feasible to start my own cinema and theatre society, often creating events for charity. This first attempt won't be for charity, although it is costly and I'm asking for pretty reasonable donations ($12 a person) to help defray the cost, but no one will be turned away...Wish I could offer this with no strings!
Anyhow, I hope to have lots of conversations on this site with Kelly fans. I think it would be great to have a marathon of Kelly's underrated work as a director (HELLO DOLLY, CHEYENNE SOCIAL CLUB, GIGOT, GUIDE FOR A MARRIED MAN and the TV Musical of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK)... If I sell my timeshare in a few weeks, I'm going to have my garage in the San Fernando Valley converted into a state-of-the-art screening room, which would keep the overhead down on a film society...
Suggestions and support highly encouraged,
