Details are scant on the 1840 census, and there is not a PET* CAR*L* in Hocking County 1840, but there is in neighboring Fairfield County in 1840 - note that

but there is in neighboring Fairfield County in 1840 -
note that the 1840 town-name is the same as the 1860-1870-1880
          censuses for Hocking County!! -

          1840 Perry, Fairfield, Ohio
          Peter Carrol ..2...1......-22...1.......
          - 0 slaves, 3 people employed in agriculture

          2 males age 10 < 15 - (could be Lebbeus & unknown)
          1 male aged 40 < 50 - Peter Carrol
          2 females aged < 5 - (could be Nancy & Jane)
          2 females age 5 < 10 - (2 unknown females)
          1 female aged 30 < 40 - (could be Catharine)

Biggest problem is that we don't even know if everyone in the
household is the same surname or not! the "unknowns" could be
siblings or cousins or completely unrelated!!
