      John Welch, son of George and Margaret Thompson Welch, was born in
      Glencar, near Manor Hamilton, County Leitrim, Ireland. He immigrated
      to America in 1856. In 1861 he enlisted in the 11th Illinois Calvary
      at Peoria, Illinois, and died of a wound while engaged in Battle in
      Tennessee.
