Re: [Genealogy Research Club] For those looking for a challange
- There is a book “ Venango County, Penn.” by Charles Almanzo Babcock. It references Smith family. Perhaps there are clues there?
Venango County Pennsylvania, Cemetery Records and Early Church Histories, Volume 7, Sandycreek Township
A very early census may show his children still living in the area?
great list of references in that area- http://www.sbcgs.org/phold.txt%c2%a0

Near my home there is a monument for a gentleman named H.A.Smith.
Date of birth Nov.11,1711 Death Sept 1,1777
I have a copy of the deed for the property which is owned by the county.
The property was bought in 1924 for the purpose of this monument which in the deed is said to be a grave marker.
After speaking to the county and the state archives neither have any idea who this guy is and no idea why it was built.
The location is Canal Township,Venenago County Pennsylvania
To see a picture of it go to www.ancestralspace.com/mooneysearch
I'm hoping someone can find something about him. He i
s not a relative but has become something of a quest now...lol
