Hi Bev, Sorry for the delay but we were one of the lucky ones who got a
down pour in the last lot of rain that came through, which gives you
plenty of extra jobs to do. We have just been looking into my wifes
family, who it seems come from the Gympie area. You said you had some
data on old records. Have you anything on Joseph Ross born Ireland 1811
and died in Gombooran Queensland 1898, it seems he was my wifes 5th
generation decendant. He landed in Woolongong about 1831 and lived there
for 45 years then moved to Queensland where he lived for 22 years at a
place called Lincon villa Goombooran
Happy to hear about your rain - you folk around Tara, along with many in
other locations, have been drought ridden for too long!
I have one only Death Registration in Queensland for 1898 - Joseph ROSS,
Father Joseph ROSS, Mother Violetta ORR.
He died 16 July 1898 Registration Number 1898/002021.
There are no entries in the Dern Index (incomplete in any case), and
nothing at http://interment.net/aus/qld/index.htm. It appears
Goomboorian (note spelling Ron) has not been transcribed.
I am currently looking at marriages in the Wollongong area, BUT please
verify this information before recording it.

By looking that little bit further, Ron, we can reasonably expect this
is your Joseph. He has a daughter named after his Mother, and his wife
is Belinda. The fact that most of these records reference the
denomination as Roman Catholic and he's from Ireland, enforces that we
are guessing fairly well. I don't like such a small family, with such
gaps between births, so I'm going back in to search without a Mother.
