- Feb 26The ABC-TV network aired on Monday, February 26, 1979 an episode of "The $20,000 Pyramid", with host Dick Clark and featuring celebrity guest players Jo Anne Worley and David Letterman. The civilian contestants in the first game were Roy Holliday from Brooklyn, New York and Marilyn Abbott from Philadelphia. Pennsylvania. The announcer for this week of episodes was Alan Kalter, substituting for Bob Clayton, who was absent from the taping session of that day. What is significant about this particular original telecast was that it was seen as part during the same broadcast day in its entirety, as shown on ABC's owned-and-operated ("O&O") station WLS-TV Channel 7 in Chicago, Illinois, while it was being recorded and archived on Beta videotape into the collection of the Museum of Television and Radio, now the Paley Center For Media. It can be viewed at either of the branches on request viewing (and easily) in New York City or Beverly Hills. In 1997, as part of the Museum's "Adopt-A-Program" project, "The $20,000 Pyramid" and this one sole complete episode from that series that is there from their collection was "adopted" permanently, with my name attached to its database, as seen below from the entry. I personally have the certificate still in my private archives, and which it was signed by its president at the time, the late Robert Bascha. By the way, among the 400 top requested episodes in the Paley Center For Media's collection, this one episode of "Pyramid" was ranked at #248.Sincerely,William A. Padronwapadron@...wapadron@...P.S. Sorry to say, that episode cannot be viewed online, and a condensed extract from that show was taken off from YouTube as requested by Sony, the owners of the "Pyramid" game format and back catalog of episodes in their vaults.
