- Dec 6, 2007Admiral Kerix entered the briefing room, padd in hand, and stood
quietly in the back. Gathered in the room were representatives from
various worlds trying to resurrect the federation from the ashes the
empire had reduced it to.
From what he'd heard dozens of new worlds had petitioned for entrance
into the federation. There were even rumors of the Klingon's joining.
However despite their losses, he had serious doubts about that rumor.
Klingon's were too proud and stubborn a people to not maintain their
sovereignty. An alliance was certain though.
Joseph looked over his padd again. The council wanted to know the
status of the fleet, and was no longer satisfied with the brief
reports he had been sending. They wanted a detailed briefing.
Rebuilding the fleet was no easy task, much of the old fleet was
science and exploration vessels, not suitable for war with the empire.
only a relative handful of thousands of starfleet ships would get
overhauled and put back into service. The rest, were being dismantled
and used to build new ships.
Among those getting overhauled were the Akira class. The upgrades
would make them a near match to imperial strike cruisers shield wise.
their heavy torpedo payload would make them a threat to heavier
imperial ships at range, but once they run out of torpedoes they would
be forced to retreat. A select few other classes would be similarly
upgraded with increased torpedo capacity.
The Excalibur, and its twin, both of which had been among the first
ships overhauled with new tech from the other galaxy were undergoing
repairs and would reenter service soon.
The Venture, his daughters ship, was one of a new line of ships
created with greater understanding of luscian tech, and help from
alliance engineers, and seemed to be the model for the direction
starfleet was headed in it's ship building. No large bulky ships that
required vast resources to build and a large crew. The new fleet would
be smaller than their imperial counterparts, and quicker, but still
powerful for their size, relying less on torpedoes that could run out
in the middle of a fight, and more on powerful energy weapons.
There was still a long way to go though before starfleet could really
take on the imperial factions remaining in the milky way, he just hope
that they didnt realize that.
"Admiral Kerix." A representative said, "We're ready for your report."
Joseph looked up from his padd and and nodded, then headed for the
podium...
