Maroc Telecom subsidiary Gabon Telecom said its number of subscribers rose by 46.1 percent to 777,000 by 31 December 2012 from 532,000 in the previous year. Revenues rose by 23 percent to MAD 1.29 billion compared with 2011, buoyed mainly by strong growth in the mobile segment, whose service revenues rose by 35 percent thanks to a firm upturn in the mobile customer base. At the beginning of 2012, Gabon Telecom also benefited from Gabon and Guinea's hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations men's soccer tournament. As a result of sustained marketing action and network expansion, the mobile customer base grew by 46 percent. The fixed-line customer base declined by 20 percent, and the internet customer base fell by 67 percent.
