Nissan may have some good ideas here--I can't see the wheels too clearly in the picture, but it hints of a possible low-rolling-resistance development.

Nissan Unveils Esflow Electric Sports Car at Geneva Motor Show
Nissan has taken the sheets off its first electric sports car, the
Esflow, at the Geneva Motor Show this week. After producing the Leaf,
the world's first mass market electric vehicle, Nissan is now going
sporty with its electric endeavours. Powered by two electric motors, one
in each rear wheel, the two seater coupe can get from 0-62mph in less
than five seconds and has a top speed of 120mph. Range-wise the Esflow
is said to be able to travel 150 miles on one charge, that's 50 miles
      more than the Leaf.
