I hope that the following does not breach any sort of "spam"
rules on this list as I think this should be of interest to at least
some members. I have been recently approached by a party who is
interested in selling a 1717 Stradivarius violin. They claim to have
all available documentation as to provenance and history as well as
photographs of the instrument in question. I do not know of its
condition or its price yet, but if anyone on this list is interested in
purchasing such an instrument (of course you should all know that it
would constitute a capital investment), please do let me know and I can
find out all necessary and required information. I myself do not know
whether it is authentic but hope to ascertain this matter conclusively
sooner rather than later. Needless to say, any serious interested
party would have access to all pertinent evidence and documentation of
origin. I hope at least one or two of you may find this information
      useful.

      Regards,

      Gabriel Parra-Blessing

.... if its a strad then your freind should take it to Sotheby's or
Christies ASAP, get it valued and have it insured. Failing that they
should find a specialist dealer in the states who can determine who made
        it.

The violin's provenance will have to be determined before it can be valued
        and sold.

Just a brief note on the possibility of a Stradivarius violin. Stradivarius
forgeries are perhaps the most plentiful in the world.

A decent Strad (i.e. authentic and also not stolen) would go for $750,000 and
          up on the auction market.

So exercise all prudence and caution in such matters.
