Western Alliance and Digistar Users Group reservations extended
- Hello from Sunny Southern California !
Planning continues for the Western Alliance and Digistar Users Group
The weather has been great here in San DIego lately, the mud slides are
putting out the brush fires, and we've been ( 30 ) days without a major
earthquake... Just kidding!
Good News- The US Grant has extended the deadline for hotel reservations to
September 3rd. This is a good chance to stay at a classic hotel at a ( for
San Diego ) good rate of $149.00 per sparkling evening. If you are going to
call the Grant for reservations, please call them between 9 and 5, so you
can get through to the LOCAL call center. Make sure to mention the DUG or
the WAC, or even the Fleet Science Center. The call center that takes over
in the evenings is not aware of the conference, it seems. You can even
email the hotel from their web site.
Interestingly enough, the US Grant is joining the "Starwood" collection of
luxury hotels, putting it beyond the reach of most of us soon. This might be
your last chance to stay in one of the counties stately hotels.
More Good News- The full dome system here will be a Digistar 3 SP, in a
portable dome located at the US Grant hotel. Our huge 27 year old, 76 foot
dome, is quite difficult to fill properly with a good looking image, and
none of the major manufactures could do a temporary install of the large
scale system needed to look really good in that room. SO Evans and
Sutherland has stepped up to the plate and is going to do what they do so
well. I will get information out ASAP about that.
Bad News.. I still need papers. its OUR conference, lets fill it up with
interesting, inspirational presentations. What have you been doing? sharing
is good! Let me know, even informally, if you are going to present a paper.
Jenny Pons is bringing something to present in the BIG dome for DUG, and
Larry Bar is threatening to do the same for WAC.
Any one have any DVDs they made that they want to play in the theater? I'll
show off the Transit of Venus and the History of IMAX DVDs I made...
