      The University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking a full-time manager for its Planetarium and Visualization Theater.       Job Posting Summary:

      The College of Arts and Sciences is recruiting for a full-time manager of the UAA Planetarium and Visualization Theater (PVT). The PVT is an all-digital full dome theater with a 10-meter dome and 64 seats. It is powered by a 4k-resolution Sky-Skan Definiti system with ten PC computers and two Sony SXRD projectors. The facility was built in 2008 and the PCs were upgraded in 2012. The PVT also includes a content server as well as two separate PC systems for content creation.

      Job duties include:

      Maintenance of the Planetarium and Visualization Theater (PVT) and technical support of computers, projectors and software. This includes, but is not limited to, the replacement of bulbs, installation of software updates and new datasets, and debugging of software incompatibilities. The manager will work with SkySkan, Inc. the manufacturer of the projector system to address existing and future issues.

      Development and implementation of new content for teaching and public shows. This includes "slicing" and installing new planetarium shows, creation of new 3D models, recording video with the PVT's 360-degree and fisheye cameras, and adding new software capabilities to the PVT.

      Faculty support in use of the facility, public and K-12 show presentations, and training presenters and classroom instructors. This includes serving as the presenter for many of the K-12 and public shows, training other presenters on how to use the projector system and training classroom instructors on how to use other aspects of the PVT room.

      Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

      Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position:

      Individual must be motivated with strong problem-solving skills. Must have the astronomy content knowledge, computing skills and presentation ability to meet the responsibilities listed. Willingness to work with faculty and students as well as sensitivity to a diverse student population is important. Collegiality is a must.
      Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses). Three years college coursework and three years progressively responsible experience related to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

      Length of time and type of experience required for this position:

      A B.S. or M.S. in physics, astronomy or related field is required. Total of 6 years training and experience.

      Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position:

      Experience in operating a planetarium is preferred. Experience with Microsoft Windows, Digital Sky 2, and 3D modeling and rendering software is preferred.
