The 2013 Sundance Film Festival, which ended Saturday night, proved to be a fantastic opportunity to introduce Digistar 5 and the incredible fulldome medium to an international creative community of filmmakers. E&S and Digistar 5 helped create an undeniable buzz about fulldome at the festival and in numerous stories across the news media. Lynette Walworth's artistic, meditative fulldome show, CORAL: Rekindling Venus, played to 48 sellout audiences in our 5 meter portable dome that featured Digistar 5 with two DLP projectors creating 2560 x 2560 pixels of resolution on the dome.
Each sold-out show had a line of guests with wait list tickets hoping to gain admission, and Digistar 5 performed magnificently, delivering show after show. The Sundance Film Festival volunteer staff operated the system daily after only about 10 minutes of training. The Digistar auto-alignment system kept the projectors beautifully aligned, providing a consistently seamless image across the dome. Lynette said it was the best she had ever seen her show look and commented numerous times about the richness of the colors and the beauty of the projection system in our dome.
Each day of the festival, from Noon to 1:00, we showed clips and trailers from the wide variety of content available for fulldome, including E&S shows, third party produced fulldome shows, and shows transferred from giant screen 70 mm film. Hundreds of people saw our D5 demos; we heard nothing but enthusiastic, positive comments about the system and the amazing impact of the medium.
E&S is very proud to have brought the first fulldome experience to the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and we look forward to the possibility of future collaborations with Sundance and discovering other exciting ways we can expose fulldome to an ever expanding audience.
All the best,
