The ZKP3 Star Projector used at Stardome Observatory in Auckland New
Zealand is approximately 10 years old and has been well maintained.
The projector was centrally mounted in our 11 meter planetarium dome
and performed extremely well up until its replacement due to a
digital system install early in 2008. The projector still uses the
original Zeiss DOS based interface through a PC controller board
which still functions perfectly, however the PC is 10 years old and
Zeiss have recently released an updated version of the control
interface. The star projector continues to create a well defined star
field with no noticeable flaws; all the optics and mechanical
shutters are in working order. The projector move freely along all
axis, (AZI, Diurnal. Polar) along with the planetary projectors and
the moon. The disassembly of the projector was conducted by a Zeiss
technician and it is currently in packaging ready for shipment, along
with some new parts that had arrived from Zeiss.
