- Masanobu Fukuoka-sensei is one of the very few people alive today who have invented a
new modern-day solution to "The worst mistake in the history of the human race" - that is
a solution to the mistake of unsustainable agriculture.
Unsustainable agriculture includes all forms defined by the English language definition of
the word agriculture.
Agriculture, the English language word, and its Latin origin, by definition and thousands of
years of tradition has as its express purpose unsustainability, by extraction of fertility from
the soil. Extraction of the fertility *capital* for growing food for now, not forever, and then
expanding to new land & soils when it's exhausted that fertility *capital*.
Agriculture, in the sense of the definition, concept and tradition of the English language
(Latin) word, started in the (then) Fertile Crescent 11-13,000 years ago and spread
across all of the area now covered by languages in the Indo-European language family -
from Ireland and England east to India, north to Scandanavia, and including Italy -Roman
empire-, Greece, etc.
Depressing this may feel to you the reader, it however is not, the world today is replete
with rigorous evidence for this mistake of 'western' agriculture, and evidence since as far
back, or earlier, as the times of the writing of both the Bible and the Tora, the Jewish
book, which we Christians call the Old Testament.
So simple honesty on this subject prevents any depression, and acting now, while faced
with this evidentiary elephant-in-the-room, can prevent even the lesser sadness or cure
already occuring depression or sadness. Try the action, of random acts of kind seedball
scattering. Random acts of kindness to all of nature, including one's-self!
