      Ordinary desk dictionaries are not usually of much help to natural farmers looking for the right word to identify a horticultural technique or the name of a plant. Two specialized books that often point in the right direction are

      The American Horticultural Society A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants edited by Christopher Brickell

      and

      Taylors Dictionary for Gardeners edited by Frances Tenenbaum (Houghton Mifflin, 1997).

      Taylors is especially good in naming and identifying gardening techniques such as "scarifying" seeds.
