The good news: biotech stocks have been falling, and losing credibility on a global scale.

The bad news: a progressive bill protecting farmers from contamination by genetically engineered seed contamination of their crops will be thrown out of parliament.

What we can do: click on the link (or copy and paste), fill out the form and send the form letter to your MP. We can change the course of history for the better.

      Please forward widely!

      Sincerely,
      Frances

      > Update and Action Alert: Bill C-474
      >
      > On Wednesday October 27. Members of Parliament will vote to extend or
      > shut down debate on Bill C-474 (to require the government to assess
      > export market harm before new GE seeds are sold in Canada).
      >
      > Make sure your MP votes to extend this important debate. Write your MP
      > instantly from http://www.cban.ca/474action
      >
      > The Agriculture Committee is asking for a 30-day extension to the
      > debate on Bill C-474 - the hearings on the Bill have barely begun. If
      > Members of Parliament vote against the extension, the debate on Bill
      > C-474 will be squashed and the Bill will be quickly returned to the
      > House for a final vote. The Liberals have indicated they will not
      > support Bill C-474!
      >
      > This is a great opportunity to communicate again with your MP or
      > contact them for the first time http://www.cban.ca/474action You can

      >
      > The biotech industry wants to shut down the debate on Bill C-474
      > because the debate is exposing how some GE crops can cause economic
      > harm to farmers. The Liberal Party is looking for a way to justify not
      > supporting the Bill and extending the debate will make it harder for
      > them to vote no to the Bill.
      >
      > Bill C-474 would support Canadian farmers by requiring that an
      > analysis of potential harm to export markets be conducted before the
      > sale of any new genetically engineered seed is permitted. This Bill
      > is a critical opportunity to stop dangerous GE crops. Bill C-474
      > begins a real debate over the impacts of GE crops. If the Bill is
      > passed it would stop GE wheat and GE alfalfa. It was introduced by
      > Alex Atamanenko, the NDP Agriculture Critic and MP for British
      > Columbia Southern Interior.
