Governor Whitman of N.J. did not approve a bill
that would have allowed the slaughter of deer by
high-powered rifles with silencers. The bill also would have
allowed taxpayer money to be used to process the carnage
which would be shipped to food banks and targeted for
the poor. The bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Connie
Myers passed through the State assembly and senate by a
wide margin. The Governor did not pass the bill
because of public outcry that the use of high-powered
rifles would be a safety hazard to residents throughout
      the state.
