Around 50 deer have turned up dead in Covington. Wildlife officials say
they have noticed this in other parts of the state as well.

The dead deer have been spotted on MeadWestvaco's property. A spokeswoman
for the plant says they have found about 20 so far. David Kocka was able to
capture one that was near death. "She had gotten down in the water and was
not able to get out. I then euthanized her and removed her from the body of
      water," says Kocka.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is running tests on the
animal. Those results could be back early next week, however, all signs
point to Hemorrhagic Disease. A deer gets the infection once its bitten by
a gnat. While some survive, most die quickly because their body temperature
      overheats.
