A high-tech Hovercraft and good old-fashioned elbow grease helped save the
life of a deer this morning.

The call came in around 10 a.m. that a deer had fallen through the ice of
Lake Gleneida in the area of Route 301. Carmel fire officials alerted
Mahopac Falls, a department with a dive rescue team and Hovercraft. Rescuers
were able to reach the deer in the Hovercraft and, reaching out with their
      hands, pulled it to safety.

The frightened animal was warmed up with blankets, checked to make sure it
was OK and then set free.
