      Just purchased a FX5. Have a 40 gallon tank with three FILTHY goldfish. Can someone recommend what would be the best Filter Media to use,or do you need more info about the tank. I am just a beginner and am not all that knowledgeable about it all.

      if it is a 40 gallon tank an fx5 is overkill, it circulates far too much water for that size tank.you could probably do a fluval 305 or 405 maybe. you don t

        if it is a 40 gallon tank an fx5 is overkill, it circulates far too much water for that size tank.you could probably do a fluval 305 or 405 maybe. you don't say which kind of goldfish; if they are shubunkins or comets they will probably survive but are not going to like that much current, if they are fancies they are going to be exhausted trying to stop themselves  from flying around the tank.
