Ok, so, after losing my final betta, I have spent hours upon hours
reading everything I can on the internet. So far, I still have no
idea why they keep dying. The closest guess I can come is that
perhaps they are eating the sand and dying?? I have read on a few
different sites that some bettas will do that...others say they've
never encountered the problem. However, I am out of ideas. I just
don't know why they are dying, but clearly they cannont survive for
long in my tank and I really don't want to keep trying them.

The last betta that died was not at all chewed up on the fins, etc.,
didn't look like she'd been attacked by the cherry barbs or zebra
      danios.

So, finally, I've decided to stock the tank with something else. I'm
thinking of switching my male dwarf gourami and 2 cory cats to that
tank and adding a couple of female dwarf gouramis and some other
fish, and turning the hexagonal tank into a guppy tank, with maybe a
few otto cats or something. Who knows? But I am tired of losing fish.
We really like our fish, and it bothers me to keep finding dead ones.
This last one was really cute...white with a blue stripe down her
      side. Kind of neat.

So, thanks for all the advice, and I apologize for asking so many
questions! I know all of you must be annoyed to death by me posting
so much and asking so many questions. I *have* spent a lot of time
reading on the topic, but just couldn't find a reason, and I've
gotten such great information already on the site.

      Best regards,

      Laura

hi just signed  up to this group and am looking forward to learning from everyones experience as i set up my 2 tanks one 55 gal w/ the surviving fish from advice i got on another forum (lost almost all my fish with that wonderful informative attack) and my original 29 gal i have to set up still after moving it
my surving fish are 2 tiger barbs (frick and frack), 1 rainbow shark (Batman), one male betta (Pong), 2 plecos I dont' know what kind they are but one is growing large (Flash) and the other is staying about 3" long (shugly-that was its name when i inhereted it shy plus ugly)
