Group Description

The Franciscan Order, the Franciscans, is a mendicant religious order tracing their origin to St. Francis of Assisi and following the Rule of St. Francis. The official Latin name is the Ordo Fratrum Minorum (literally, "Order of Little Brothers"); Francis thus referred to his followers as "Fratricelli", meaning "Little Brothers". A male member of the order is nicknamed a friar. Among the most important Franciscans are its founder, Francis, as well as Anthony of Padua, Bonaventure, John Duns Scotus, Roger Bacon, Alexander of Hales, William of Ockham, Giovanni da Pian del Carpini, and Padre Pio of Pietrelcina .

A group for all members of the Franciscan family to gather for discussion and fellowship. All Franciscans and those seeking information about Saint Francis of Assisi and the order he founded are welcome.

Note: In the true spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, who said, "We ought also to fast and to abstain from vices and sins and from superfluity of food and drink, and to be Catholics", this group is loyal and submissive to Pope Benedict XVI and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Attempts to solicit members to schismatic sects and orders which pretend to be Catholic and Franciscan are not acceptable.
