A new name for Linux Bangalore ( some thoughts )
Further to the earlier threads regarding a new name
with a new venue for linux-bangalore i would like to
extend the same.
You may take this to a flamebait as well but would
like to discourage that.
1.Worldwide the name "LINUX" is recognized as the
frontbearer for a lot of conferences.
So the point is do we keep Linux in the name
2. As pointed by Atul in his blog , the conference
should not represent only Bangalore.
This should rule out the possiblity of having
bangalore in the name
3. The name should be identifiable across
India/Asia/APAC/Third world countries so as to be
4.Further to this the name should be instantly
Here we hit the deck , nobody imagined LinuxBangalore
would be LB.
So the acronyms may evolve , important is the name
5.Since we are planning to take everybody in this fold
so as to have a common ground, its
imperative that we take care of the feelings for all
ideologies in the FOSS world.
6.Nowadays even finding a name for your project has
become a difficult task.
the Anjuta project is a good example of the name of
the person being used for a project.
Based on the above 6 points i found a few names which
could help us get there
LinConf India - having a reference to the name "LINUX"
GLUE/GLUDE - GNU & LINUX User and Dev Conf and
FOSTECH or FOSTECH India - Free and Open Source
Note: Point 6 is still under consideration

I suggest we have an abbreviated name that could convey much more .
For example, we can have something like
Linux Interest Group ( LIG )
Linux Kernel Special Interest Group (LKSIG)
Linux In Expression ( LIX )

Why not formalize it. How about "Libby" or "Libbie". Doesn't mean
anything but suggests a lot. Unfortunately the domain names are taken,
but ".org.in" is available.

Were Taken) or perhaps ATGNWNPC (All The Good Names Were Not Politically
They don't quite roll off your tongue, but they're very accurate.
