      Hi everybody,

I was just wondering, is this group still alive? And also, there seem to be more than one variant of Folkspraak, i.e. Volkspraak, Middelspraak etc. Are there any plans on uniting these, or is one of them already a uniting version? Just wondering.. I find the idea of a pan-germanic language very interesting and would be happy to contribute! I am a native speaker of Dutch and German, and am not too bad at English. I know a few things in Norwegian and Danish, but this is veeeeery little.

Looking forward to hearing from you Folkies,

      Linus

Deze zomer geen vakantie voor mij. Ben afgelopen tijd (half jaar) bezig geweest met 'Folksprak TravLang' al heb ik er niet echt veel tijd voor gehad gezien school en een stage.

Ik hoop me nu in ieder geval meer in te kunnen zetten. Studie Nederlands HBO is onderweg
en hoop daarnaast nog een Germaanse taal te leren.

Heb zes pagina's in de Travlang, tot zover. Heb de woorden uit de Excel documenten met de woordenboeken erin gehaald.

          Enkele voorbeelden eruit:

          - I do not understand - Ik begrijp het niet - I don't understand it - Ikk ferstae ett niht

          - Do you accept credit cards? - Ackceptere du kreditkarte?

          - A lot - hoep, en hoep, masse

Ik heb veel toevoegingen en ideeën over hoe cijfers geschreven kunnen gaan worden en wat overeenkomsten zoals het woord 'fyrste' (vijf) wat ook heerster, koning en prins betekend.

Hoop dat er op ander gebied ook wat vorderingen gemaakt zijn.

          grtz,

          pj

                Hei Linus,

There have been, or better: there were many FS varieties, but after 10 years we finally decided to unify them, and you can find the current "standard" Folksprak in the files section. The nice thing is that you (and everyone who's interested) can still contribute to it.

BTW are you really a native speaker of both Dutch and German?

That's fine. You should also be aware that since the first publication of the standard/united Folksprak wordlist, there have been a few minor but important changes, such as "ek" = I (formerly "ikk"), "des" = this, those etc. I saw that you still used "ikk" in one of your examples, instead of "ek".
The plural of verbs is formed by adding the suffix "-e", but the plural of nouns is in "-en| , so it's actually "kreditkarten" rather than "~karte".

Well, just a few remarks, please don't see it as criticising, it's a great thing you're working on this!

I'm working my ass off here and you tell me you changed it?

No, just joking, i learned a lot by it, and that's good.

I pulled the words from a dictionary created (downloaded i guess) the 9th of january .

                        http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/UGP-TWfHIW22RdRcNd9IFUBal6vPFgdENBn0E_vpw0lIJV961-5g1wf6E0CLkRwG7BD1hmdOgOTsAJk4zXYJoszVENQ/TravLang%20-%2019-06-2011.pdf

It's just a start, the sixth page i left off, wasn't finished with that one. Hope it's at least something, since i wasn't aware of the changes. If I missed something, my bad.

Let me know what u think.

Hallo all. Ek ha wesd syk doh niht is doed! Ek ha so mennig medicinen nu ond ha niht so mennig energi. Oek ek ha ander hobbys ond naturlik en job! I ha hop dat ek shall werde better later des jar. Ek ferander min medicin nu ond ek hop dat de nyw medicin werk better ond make mi niht so syk.

One or two comments on the travlang:

I thought "please" was "wes-so-god". (be so nice).
Ikk now ek. Dis is now des.
I think the general consensus is that singular finite verbs are just the stem. Plural finite verbs end in -e. So ek koep (I am buying), wi koepe (we are buying).
Twelw should be either "twelv" or maybe "twelf"
Cheers I'd suggest "prosit" or "prost".
Kosher should be "kosher". Vegetarian could be "uten flesh" (without meat). Or the fundamentalists and vegans could just for once try eating a ham and cheese quiche.-- they might enjoy it and discover that it doesn't cause them to burst into flames :-)

Bill should be "rekkening". "bil" means some kind of medieval pole-axe weapon (called a bill in English).
"pekele" is the verb meaning "to salt" rather than the noun salt.

Pork has to be something like "swin-flesh". Poultry would be "fogel-flesh".
Dessert, probably "dessert" is OK. Maybe something like "after-spis" will mean something many speakers.

Lastly the e-acutes in the dictionary are for dictionary usage only as a pronunciation guide. They indicate the the "e" is a stressed syllable and not a schwa. eg "hotél is stressed on the "e" and is pronounced [ho"te;l]. If it was *hotel" it would be pronounced ["ho:t@l].
You don't really need to use the e-acutes in real literature.

It's good to hear that you have unified the lot! In the files-section, is it Middelsprake? I noticed that that's the one you have been working on most recently, looking at the dates. I am indeed a native speaker of both languages, as I was raised bilingually, my father being Dutch, and my mother German. Dutch is my 'best' language though, as I have always lived in the Netherlands.
I'd love to contribute to the project by the way, I'll first look into the concise outlines of middelsprake and your travlang to get an idea of what has already been done. I might add that I am a student of Celtic Studies, the linguistic side. The Celtic languages won't help with this language I fear, but I do have quite a sound knowledge of linguistics in general.

I find the idea of a pan-germanic language very interesting and would be happy to contribute! I am a native speaker of Dutch and German, and am not too bad at English. The nice thing is that you (and everyone who's interested) can still contribute to it.

And also, there seem to be more than one variant of Folkspraak, i.e. Volkspraak, Middelspraak etc. Are there any plans on uniting these, or is one of them already a uniting version? Just wondering.. I know a few things in Norwegian and Danish, but this is veeeeery little.
