I've been a Christian for over 20 years, and for years was in the
      Navigator mold of one-size-fits-all here's-how-to-be-a-Christian.
I'm currently a member of church that thinks very much the same way.

So when a friend of mine mentioned he was reading 'New Kind of
Christian' and said most people in our Christian circles would
consider the author to be a "flaming liberal" I was immediately
interested and bought the book off Amazon.

To me this book has been a breath of fresh air! It's refreshing to
know other people have the same thoughts about how unfulfilling and
distasteful the modern church and the culture of commercialism that
infect it can be (the Prayer of Jabez nonsense is a perfect
example .. get your Prayer of Jabez tie, Prayer of Jabez boxed
cards, Prayer of Jabez ornaments, Prayer of Jabez scented candles,
etc., etc). At last someone was brave enough to put these ideas in
print. Props to CRCC for standing with Brian and letting him put
these ideas out there, most churches would not have the nerve for it.

Unfortunately even after reading the book I'm still disillusioned
about things, but at least I know I'm not alone and have some hope
      for something different.

Hi, Mark - many of us have read NKOC and have been equally challenged and redeemed in the extent of knowing or discovering that we re not alone. As an FYI -

an FYI - we are going to be reading NEW KIND OF CHRISTIAN together as an
online discussion starting again November 1st. The egroup is at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NKOC. We're going to take it slow, a chapter a
week, which should take us into early Spring 2003, when Brian expects the
        follow-up novel to be published!

Thanks, Mark for sharing. I, too, have read A NEW KIND OF CHRISTINAN, and
was stimulated and energized by it. I've passed it around to several others
in my church who have read it too. Our vision is "Experiencing LIFE in
Christ; sharing Christ in life." So Brian's book is stimulating us where we
want to be and go, attempting to build relationships through which the LIFE
of Christ can be shared in authenticity, honesty and friendship. I want to
be in on the online discussion of NKOC.

on checking that out. I'll be interested in hearing what others'
experiences have been and what they have to say.

If I might make an unsolicited suggestion, can the discussion start
with the Introduction? There's some huge issues in there that I'd
really like to hear what other people think about them ... I know
when I read it I was telling myself, "That's exactly what I think!!"
but like Brian said, these are only things you talk about with people
you trust, others will only wonder about your sanity :-).

browsing and just about broke the bank by buy the e-book so I could read
it immediately. And what a read it is. Because of my work schedule I
now longer have a church fellowship and sometimes feel a bit out in left
field with some of my so called heretical :-) ideas of true
Christianity, it was so neat to read something that at the very least
comes very close to what I read in the Bible. We are to be living
witnesses and to follow Jesus is to live a very real and alive life not
the dead in bondage stuff the denominations have been feeding us for so
              long.

                Hi, folks -

I hope alot of you do join us for the discussion group. I posted a "coming
soon" message to the NKOC list here -
                http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NKOC/message/3209 - and I agree: we're going
to hit the Intro on 11/01 for the weekend, and then I'll post stuff for
Chapter 1 on 11/04. We're going to go through slowly, since most of us have
read the book before or have participated before. That way, there'll be room
for discussion without feeling hurried and rushed. Also, it should take us
into the spring when Brian's "sequel" is scheduled to be published.

                peace! - rick
