Today (14 March 2008) is Rita's 66th birthday. I sent her some
flowers on behalf of all of us in the club. Many thanks to Laurel
McKee for contributing towards the cost of Rita's flowers.

The card said, "We Love Our Rita! Happy 66th birthday to the world's
greatest actress (but then, we're biased)! From Laurel and Robert,
on behalf of all of the members of the 'Finally A Rita Tushingham
Club' fan club."

I received this email from Rita today:

I'm sorry I do not know all your names, I want to thank you all for
the beautiful flowers you sent me for my Birthday, I am very touched
by your thoughtfulness.

I will be spending the day with some close friends and my youngest
daughter Aisha.

Those of you living in the USA may have noticed that Turner Classic
Movies broadcast Rita's 1963 film "Girl With Green Eyes" last night,
one of Rita's best films,

The downside is that, immediately following the film, TCM host Robert
Osbourne talked about Lynn Redgrave, who had a small part in the
film. He went on and on about Lynn, mentioning some of the other
things that she has done in her career. But not one single word
about Rita! And she was the STAR of the film! 'Twas a bit unfair,
to say the least.

TCM seldom broadcasts any of Rita's films, save for "Doctor Zhivago",
so I'm happy that this broadcast of "Girl With Green Eyes" allowed
many Americans to "discover" Rita for the first time.

Robert Osbourne is an idiot. He once introduced "Will
Penny" as the first film directed by Tom Gries, which
it certainly was not!

Thanks to everyone who contributed funds for Rita's birthday flowers. They were delivered today.

Here is an email from Rita.

"Thank you so much for the most beautiful birthday flowers, I was with Dylan when I received them and he helped me put them in to vases and thought they smelt lovely, when he got home he told Aisha about my beautiful flowers. Thank you so much for being so generous and thoughtful."

"I had a lovely day, it was quiet because of the recent passing of Terry, his funeral is on Monday, Aisha and Alex will attend, I will look after the children, Dodonna [won't be coming] as it would be such a long journey for her."
