I thought that was a good film even though in the 2nd half it was clearly
not as interesting and/or believable. Al Pacino played a director who is
so annoyed by actors in general and Winona Ryder in particular that he
decides (with the help of a computer nut) to create his own leading "lady"
... A CGI creation he names "S1M0NE" who will do as he pleases and stop
complaining over petty details ... Catherine Keener appears as well, she
is the head of the studio.
Great actors in this film, no doubt ... The story was mildly interesting,
especially in the 2nd half as I said. I liked how Pacino was making
everyone believe S1M0NE was a real person and always making excuses why
she couldn't appear in public, producing interviews and doctoring photos
Quite a few laugh out loud moments there and I liked this concept of a
VIRTUAL star, why can't they do this now ... don't tell me most actors
can't be replaced ! lol ! Wouldn't it be nice to have all those great
actors from the past in modern films too ? hum !
Unfortunately in the 2nd half it was dealing with issues that were too
unrealistic and over the top, my level of interest dropped slightly ...
good twist in the last 10 minutes though.
Still a film worth watching, with lesser actors I would have been tempted
to go down to 2.5/5 but I tend to be a lil' "forgiving" with Pacino ...
since he hasn't "sold out" yet, contrarely to Robert De Niro for example
who is appearing in one bad film after the other in the past few years
just for the fat paychecks (insert here the sound of a CAN OF WORMS being
opened !) Well, isn't it true that De Niro is not as "respectable now as
he once was ?? I was thinking about that while watching the film in part.
3/5 for S1M0NE.
