      Tom,
I absolutely agree. The only reason I bypassed the router was to prove the
loss of connectivity was caused by the router or its related server.
Filters, firewalls, and dynamic anti-virus are absolutely necessary in
today's world of computing. Although it was tempting in this instance to
temporarily replace the Cisco router with a generic one to restore the
connection, I did not do it, and would not recommend that anyone else do it
just to restore service to the patrons.

That is one good reason why our router and cable modem are in the attic,
behind a locked door. As the assistant stake clerk for computers, I have a
key, and I would not want anyone else to be up there messing with that
      equipment.

After I was done testing and proving my theory, I restored everything to
normal configuration, because I had faith that the techies would correct the
problem before our FHC opened again on Tuesday. I just don't know why they
can't be on-call on the weekend for this sort of emergency.

      Thank you for your point.

Sometimes they say things like that because the CD does all the work of the settings and the help desk won t or isn t permitted to take the time to walk you

We assumed it was just us because it was Stake Conference and they were watching something off the satellite. I don t know if there is any way to do this but

We assumed it was just us because it was Stake Conference and they were
watching something off the satellite. I don't know if there is any way to
do this but when this same situation occurs another time, is there anyway to
send a message to all FHCs?

Because I had scouts in working on their merit badge in genealogy, it was a
great disappointment to have this happen. I called in our computer
specialist and he suggested the problem was the satellite but we have a
dedicated line for the DSL. I even called our ISP but they had no clue -
all they could tell me was it wasn't the satellite and their computer said
            we were okay.

I was talking to some of the staff about the Sat. situation and they told me
the same think happened General Conference weekend so they assumed it had to
            do with the satellite.

            Interesting.......

I need to say goodbye to this group... not because I'm leaving the Church or anything like that... I'm not, but because I've been released as the Stake Clerk over the FHC computer systems. I appreciate all the good work done by those of you who have spent countless hours figuring out how to get each of the collections to work in a network situation. Keep up the good work.

              Sincerely,

                Tom,

Thanks for your help over the last four years.

This group has become valuable because of efforts like yours.

We now have enough creditability so that FHC support is willing to recommend the website and discussion list to people who contact them. The road is much easier for the new computer specialist than it was when Tom started.

Good luck in your new calling Tom.
