there are many icons on the page that we never use. I would like to
reduce the number of icons on our screen. But I can't find the icons
for Ancestry, Texshare (heritage quest) and other sites that we use on
a daily basis. Can you help me with this?

If this can't be accomplished, I'd like to know what other centers do
to make the websites easily accessed.

I am not aware of any major differences regarding shortcut creation. I also
"suspect" that the ability to create an Active Desktop object is only
available if Active Desktop is actually running. There may be some
differences in how the security setting are configured on the two machines.
Also, I have found that sometimes when I make a shortcut when logged on as
Administrator, if I just move the shortcut to the "All Users" desktop that
sometimes they become invalid (probably because of permissions or because
the location is tied to the original owner). If I create the shortcut as a
restricted user then it seems to work for everyone.

Correct. Right-click on "Desktop" folder in "All Users". Select
Properties. Go to the Security tab. Click "advanced". Check the box
for "Reset permissions on all child objects...." Click "OK" and then
                  "OK".

Creating the object as a patron wouldn't work for me, because I don't
                  allow them to make changes.
