In reference to your comment:

Hi and welcome to the group, and sorry you have to be here, but at the same
time, glad there IS this group.
I am not a vet by any means, but I just wanted to say here, that from my
understanding, Steroids and Herpes are a gasoline and fire combination.
I have a cat that developed a really "itchy" condition and we were not sure
what was causing it at first. We thought "allergies" and my vet gave him a long
acting steroid to help. About a month later, after all of the itchy stuff
stopped.. it turned out to be a nervous condition and buspar helped a lot.. he
developed an ulcer on his cornea.
It turned out to be a Herpes flare, and my vet was really concerned that she
caused it. The eye specialist that I saw with Trouble told me that he doubted
that highly, but that it was just a flare waiting to happen, and it might have
been more related to some kind of stress that Trouble was experiencing that
caused the itches..
But he did tell me that Steroids and Trouble were not a good idea in the
So I wonder about steroids with Herpes here..
All the best to you and your kitty.

- I agree. Steroids only further compromise the immune
system and cause all kinds of complications.
Not worth it for a short term fix and I certainly
wouldn't want to keep a cat on steroids long term.
Have you considered a holistic vet? You can find them
in your area at www.ahvma.org or www.ivas.org There
are others who are not members with these
organizations as well.
