  • My Baxter consistently would have seizures on a monthly basis, that actually how the signs of CHF started. We thought it was a tumor in the brain at first but when he went into CHF we realized it was small clots to the brain. Definitely get your kitty on Plavix or some other anti-clotting med. Aspirin didn't cut it for Baxter and he got sick with Plavix and Natto, so my vet did...

  • Zoe, I am so sorry for your loss of Scotch. You tried your hardest and did everything you could in the fight for his life. He knew he was loved and that you were there for him. It's never easy to loose a friend, take time to grieve. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Rose

  • So I think Westgold must have been projecting their own relationship and life experiences. But in any case I had the Vet board my cat for a short time. It was only overnight. I trust my vet and I think your vet is the best place for your kitty. But my cat was nonetheless stressed at the vet and knocked over his water bowl and was without water for several hours overnight. When I...

  • My cat had seizures as part of his CHF. They were caused by blood clots. My vet had an acronym for them, but it was basically micro clots to the brain. However, the seizures my cat had would last longer then 30 seconds and would often make him tired for the rest of the day. His also happened once every month. It doesn't sound like Plankton's seizures are clot related but you never...

  • I'm sorry to report that our little Baxter passed away yesterday afternoon. It was sudden and unexpected. Baxter was having a really good week and was happy and purring in the morning and curled up next to me sleeping all night. There was no indication of anything wrong, it was just a really good and bright eyed day for him. I ran an errand to the pet store to pick up some more...

  • I'm sorry to hear about Marlow. My cat went through a similar issue this month, it was very scary for me and I was close to making the decision to put my baby down because he looked so miserable. So take heart, the meds you are on can be increased still to make him feel better and do better. I have learned that after a stressful event, like a vet visit or ER visit it takes my baby...

  • So Baxter and I are still battling fluid building in his lungs. It just isn't going down but he's more and more dehydrated. His respirory rate has been great, 24, 21 and 19 yesterday. Today its been good too. But Baxter just had a straining bowel movement and after sat down to rest. RR issue 25 but he's got some major crackling going on. Has anyone expirenced an issue where the RR...

  • Did the vet not also put him on Heparin? You should talk to them about it. When my cat had saddle thrombus everyone said euthanize. But my vet did a old school treatment of DMSO and saline injected in to each hind leg artery. He had blood flow back in a few days and we did a second treatment 3 days later. It took 2 months for him to walk normally. But I bought a brace to help him...

  • Lyn, Thanks for this information! I usually research a drug before I give it to Baxter but didn't do it this time. Baxter has all those Symptoms, YIKES! I looked up the antidote they list "Cyproheptadine", it has all the same side effects. Hopefully this will wear off tomorrow and he will start to feel better but I did read that Mirtazapine can stay in the system for up to a week...

  • Has anyone had a bad reaction to Mirtazapine? Its used as an appetite enhancer. On Tuesday after I gave my Baxter 1/4 tab he started to not feel well. I thought it was an upset stomach so I also gave 1/4 Pepcid. He continued to feel worse and worse until he had fluid in his lungs and I took him to the vet the next day, Wednesday. At the vet the blood results from Mondays visit were...
