Re: [FH] Is lethargy normal?
- Gizmo has moderate HCM and is on 6.25mg Atenolol twice a day. There
are some days when he runs around like a nut chasing after the other
cats, and then there are other days when he just sleeps all day and
night. I am also beginning to notice that he seems to get more tired
after his evening dose of Atenolol. But then it is night time too,
maybe that has something to do with it.
Sometimes I think I just watch him too closely and immediately think
something is wrong when he sleeps alot, and have even taken him to
the vet a few times because I thought he just didn't look right.
Thank God each time I took him there was nothing wrong. I think
sometimes I get too anxious over his heart condition and just need to
relax about it a little.
Even the vet told me he probably was just lazy that particular day,
just the way people are sometimes.
I try to gauge his activity level against my 5 year old cat who is
the closest to his age which is 1 yr 8 months and he seems to be
about the same or maybe a little more active than her. I have also
noticed that when Gizmo seems to be less active, usually they all
are. (I have 5, ranging from 1yr8mo to 12.5 years). Maybe it's the
Here's something to think about too. Gizmo was diagnosed with HCM in
October 2002. Prior to his diagnosis I did not notice any thing
strange about his activity level and of course immediately following
his diagnosis I noticed a big change. I wonder if he seems less
active because now I am paying such close attention (maybe too much)
to every little thing he does because I know he has HCM and I know
one of the symptoms is lethargy. I sometimes think I confused normal
sleeping with lethargy.
