Thank you for your input. Unfortunately, the cardiologist made a mistake on my other cat 4 years ago and almost killed her.  The only reason her advice and pills didn't kill my cat was I consulted with Cornell over the phone and their cardiologist told me not to give her the pills.  They were beta blockers and she didn't need them. They also put a mask on my poor little afraid of her own shadow cat (she's gone now) and got her so upset that when I took her home she was foaming at the mouth.  Someone I've never seen before in the 16 years I had her.
How do you trust a cardiologist who almost killed another one of your cats?

      Thank you.

      Karen

Be sure that the dental specialist consults with your cardiologist first. Only the cardiologist can tell him the heart's exact status, so he can take the best precautions possible. It always upsets me to hear that so many vets are incompetent or don't care enough to take the cat's condition into consideration before they do something. But you must get that error corrected, you can't leave your poor kitty in pain. But do not let him do anything til he talks to the cardiologist, and make sure he uses ALL the proper monitoring equipment during the proceedure. There is a safe way to put heart kitties under for these proceedures, INSIST that he follow them. I am going to post another letter after this, about the dental proceedure used on another kitty with heart disease. Yours will probably not be the same, but it will give you something to discuss with him before he does anything.

      Hi everyone,

I have just joined this vet for information and support.

I have a 17 year old cat with a heart murmur and SAMing of the mitral valve.
She also has controlled pancreatitis and controlled hyperthyroidism.

She was doing great until July 24 when my mobile vet brought her to my clinic for a simple
blood pressure check and blood work. I gave specific instructions on not to let them take her to the
back room and to have the vet techs come into the exam room. This is always the way
I have done it and have had so many vet errors in my lifetime, I wanted to minimize another.

When the mobile vet came back she told me that she followed my instructions and that my cat was
only taken to the back for a tooth scaling. Yes a tooth scaling with a metal instrument while
she was fully awake. Since she came home she has been in mouth pain and on buprenorphine.
I don't trust any vets anymore as this keeps happening. The reason I did not go to the appointment
was because I was not feeling well and she needed her 3 months re check I was told.
She left a happy cat and came back a cat in pain.

I am bringing her to a dental specialist tomorrow attached to a clinic who has a very bad repuration
so I am scared. They are the only game in town.

Does anyone know if a cat with SAMing of the mitral valve and who is 17 can be put under?

I am terrified. I know this clinic and they also make error after error.

      Thank you.

      Karen W.
