      Hi Suzanne

I`m sorry Chloe is poorly again. What dose of spiro is she on? Mine were
given 5mg twice a day, which is a quarter of a tablet. Depending on the brand
they sometimes get 7mg. There are other drugs can be added, perhaps a beta
blocker or pimobendan (vetmedin) which my cats take. But right now they
need to work on the fluid as a priority, I understand its a difficult balance
      with her kidneys.

At Trixi's worst she had 5mg lasix every 4 hours round the clock. It only
works for 8 hours so maybe you could ask about giving it 3 times a day?

Chloe was not eating, looked miserable, etc. She seemed dehydrated (she makes this odd "jaw crunching" noise - vet says this is dehydration/nausea), so I gave her IV fluids and called for an appointment with the vet. We were scheduled for Friday, but Chloe's respiration rate was (awake) 28-32 - breaths were not only faster but deeper. I immediately gave her 1 Lasix along with her other heart meds, called the vet, and bumped up the appointment to today.

X-rays showed Chloe is filling up with fluid again - her heart is much worse...We're now on 1 full Lasix 2X a day along with the enalapril and spiro...Vet took a complete blood workup - she'll have the results tomorrow then consult with the Internal Med Specialist (she does all the ultrasounds/echocardiograms, etc.) before deciding what to do medication-wise...All in all, things are not good...

I asked about possibly increasing the "spiro" - Chloe gets 1/8 tab 2X per day - vet says this is the max dose she prescribes, but will look into upping the dose. Any advice/info would be greatly, greatly appreciated...

          Dear Suzanne,

My heart goes out to you and your precious little Chloe.... she certainly has been through it, and you're such a great mom to care for her like you do. How much Lasix is Choe on per dose? How many milligrams? You said that she's only taking it twice a day?

I don't know if this helps you, but my little Twix went into CHF last Feb twice in two weeks. They upped her dose from twice a day to three times a day at 6.25mg each time. It's rather a large dose, and I've been watching her bloodwork carefully for kidney values, but (knock on wood) she is stable at this dose, and is so far not having any other adverse reactions with her kidney values. I don't know if you might try the three times a day method if you can. Maybe ask your vet?

It can mean varying your schedule to make sure you're able to give those doses 8 hours apart, but it might help your little girl. Please let us know how she's doing. You're in our thoughts and prayers.
